Thankful for: My Grandparents
I received the latest news on my Grandpa this morning. One of my reactions was gratitude…. We also received some great pictures earlier this week and it again made me thankful for the active part my Grandparents have had and continue to have in my life and the lives of Chris, Mackenzie and Lukas.
Mackenzie and Lukas call them Grandpa Jack and Grandma Mary because when Mackenzie was 2 years old, he was finding all the different Grandparents confusing. Grandpa suggested he call him Grandpa Jack and it stuck. The boys haven’t had much time with them as we have never lived close but they have a deep love and connection to them. We know this because they often bring them up in conversation, pray for them, and include them in their drawings. Both boys have always been very comfortable with them.
Quite randomly a couple of weeks ago, Lukas said to me “Grandma Mary is the oldest person in our family, right, Mom?!” That was before he knew her birthday was coming up. They are a little bit in awe of her and her age as mom and dad are old….Grandma Mary and Grandpa Jack are simply incredible but not just in age…!
My Grandpa had a follow-up surgery yesterday for complications from hip surgery he had a couple of weeks ago. Please pray for my grandparents and my Uncle and Aunt as they are the caregivers to my grandparents as they go through these difficulties. Everyone is exhausted and they found out that the man sharing his room in the hospital has a contagious infection so they will be quarantined, possibly up to 9 days.
My aunt sent these picture of my grandparents on my Grandma’s 94th birthday on September 29!
I am so thankful for my grandparents – they have been an active part of my life. Of course life has had it’s messy and difficult parts but they have been supportive and loving, modeling faith, faithfulness and love.
